There were 107 amendments and new entries added to the Legislation Update Service in June. See below a selection of the latest legislation updates.

Updates from previous months

United Kingdom: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) may grant exemptions from all but the essential requirements in Chapter III without the need to meet pre-conditions. These exemptions may be subject to conditions set by the CAA. There are no changes to duties for organisations.

United Kingdom : The Energy Act 2013 sets out the legislative framework that the Government will make Regulations from in the coming years to ensure that the UK will generate enough secure, affordable and low-carbon energy to meet increasing demand. As well as cost and capacity issues, these forthcoming policies also consider the UK’s Climate Change Act 2008 commitments and legally-binding EU renewables targets. The Act introduces Contract for Difference, a key part of the Electricity Market Reform (EMR) programme.
Great Britain: The Automated Vehicles Act 2024 establishes the framework and principles for the Secretary of State to authorise the use of automated vehicles as road vehicles in Great Britain. 

England : From 29th May 2026, the scope of the register is expanded to allow land to be registered and biodiversity units to be allocated to Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs). Organisations may apply to be included in the register, in order to be allowed to use any off-site biodiversity gains for their NSIPs.

Republic of Ireland: References to rent pressure zones are removed to allow the exemption from planning permission for change of use to a short-term let for a principal private residence to apply nationwide. It is no longer dependent on the geographical designation of rent pressure zones

England: The Environment Act 2021 aims to improve air and water quality, tackle waste, improve biodiversity and make other environmental improvements

England : Amendments are made to local plans, minerals and waste plans and supplementary plans to align with the new joint local plans and joint supplementary plan-making system for local authorities
 
England: From 24th March 2027, Registered Building Control Approvers (RBCAs) must check that house builders providing certain energy-related information to new homeowners do so in the prescribed format.
Scotland : From 1st January 2027, operators of waste activities at a permitted facility must enter specified information into the digital waste tracking system. Those found guilty of an offence may face fines.

Great Britain: Ecodesign requirements for tumble driers placed on the market in Great Britain are updated from 10th April 2026

United Kingdom: The list of protected species of flora and fauna subject to controls for movement into or out of Great Britain is updated.

United Kingdom: Transitional rules and deadlines are introduced for various sections of the Levelling-up and Regeneration Act 2023 to aid the transition between the plan making system and the new system introduced under the 2023 Act.

Great Britain: Changes are made to clarify that grants from public funds may not be used to fund a measure under the ECO4 Energy Company Obligation, with a list of such grants published.

 
Great Britain: Minor changes are made to allow certain information to be shared with the Secretary of State. There are no changes to duties for organisations.
United Kingdom: The Act enables the UK to implement the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (the BBNJ Agreement).

Scotland: From 1st April 2026, the applicable rate of Scottish Aggregates Tax is set at £2.16 per tonne of taxable aggregate.

England, Wales & Scotland: The list of protected species of flora and fauna subject to controls for movement into or out of Great Britain is updated.

Republic of Ireland: Manufacturers, authorised representatives, importers and distributors must ensure radio equipment is compliant with requirements when placing or making it available on the market. The European Union (Radio Equipment) Regulations 2017 are revoked.
