Mini Summary
Organisations can be certified to the Forest Steward Council (FSC) or Programme for Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) standards for forests and forest products. Certification demonstrates an organisation’s commitment to responsible forest management, protecting the environment, social well-being and the economic viability of forests.
Duties
Certification and adoption of FSC and PEFC standards is voluntary for organisations; standards are applicable for organisations certified or intending to become certified. Organisations who are certified with FSC or PEFC may use the relevant logo on their products in accordance with standards.
Certification bodies must be accredited by the FSC or PEFC to certify organisations as compliant with the relevant standard. Forest Steward Council certificates are issued directly by the FSC, PEFC certificates are issued by independent certification bodies.
