Recticel Insulation, a leading manufacturer of insulation boards and panels, has worked with The Compliance People for over a decade, proactively managing their legal compliance through our Legislation Update Service (LUS) platform, enrolling staff in our training courses, and taking part in regular legal compliance audits.

In 2025, our consultancy team was tasked with assessing the site’s activities, updating its environmental legal register, and evaluating it against the latest applicable UK legislation.

I have used the Compliance people for around 15 years, their LUS portal is a great tool to manage and demonstrate legal compliance. The consultants are knowledgeable and supportive. I would highly recommend them to anyone who manages ISO 14001 systems.

How we supported Recticel Insulation

Our environmental legal compliance audits are a powerful tool to guide your environmental management, including:

  • Regulatory peace of mind.
  • Expert advice, tips, guidance, and insight gained from working closely with a wide range of organisations.
  • Clear and concise actions and recommendations.
  • Help with maintaining ISO 14001 certification.

They can also uncover major financial savings, as was the case for Recticel.

Outcome

Since the site’s previous audit in 2022, there was a notable improvement in awareness of environmental legal requirements amongst the team, and it was evident that actions and recommendations had been taken on board and well addressed across the site.

As part of Recticel’s sustainability drive, the company participates in the UK’s voluntary Climate Change Agreement (CCA) scheme. By committing to reduce their relative energy usage by an agreed target figure through energy efficiency improvements, the scheme entitles them to a 92% relief on the Climate Change Levy (CCL) charged on commercial gas and electricity.

During our review of the site’s utility invoices, we identified that this relief was not being applied by the energy supplier. The discrepancy had gone unnoticed for over a year as CCL charges and rates are often unclear and difficult to interpret on supplier invoices.

Following the audit, we set an action for Recticel to investigate the billing anomaly with their supplier.

Around £60,000

rebate secured from their energy supplier in overcharged levies

£50,636

forecast saving over the coming year

£110,000

total value identified this year

Through our evaluation of compliance, we have helped Recticel not only continue to uphold their environmental duties but also revealed £110,000 in unexpected value for this year alone.
