The Digital Waste Tracking (England) Regulations 2026
Mini Summary
Operators of permitted waste facilities must record digital waste records from 1st October 2026, or register with the Environment Agency if eligible to be a digitally excluded operator and keep written waste records.
Summary
From 1st October 2026, those operating permitted waste facilities in England are required to use the digital waste tracking system to record each load of household, industrial or commercial waste that they receive. There is a £26 system fee that operators using digital waste tracking must pay.
The new system is intended to improve waste traceability and help tackle waste crime. Those who cannot reasonably use the new system have the option to register with the Environment Agency and are required to keep written records for at least 3 years.
