At The Compliance People, we are proud to say that 100% of our profits go to our parent charity Newground Together. We want to share some of the inspiring work that the charity does and how it makes a difference in people’s lives. This article explores case studies, highlighting how Newground Together’s employment team helps to support individuals into suitable roles.
Mel’s return to the workforce
After sadly losing her business during the pandemic, Mel heard about Newground Together’s services from another parent at the school gate.
Ready to return to employment, Mel met with one of Newground’s friendly employment advisors, Lisa, who helped her assess her skills, develop her CV and highlight her value. By focusing on practical skills such as interview techniques, CV improvements and training sessions, Mel was able to shift her focus away from her employment gap and instead recognise her strengths and true potential.
With Lisa’s support, Mel grew in confidence and was able to overcome her challenge, search for suitable roles and submit applications.
Mel secured a job in March 2025 and is happy in her role.
A journey to employment
This participant wishes to remain anonymous; however, their story highlights the effectiveness of the personalised employment support offered by Newground Together.
In this case, Newground were approached by a store manager, enquiring whether they had any suitable candidates for a new part-time opening in their Bonmarche store.
With a candidate in mind, Ian, Senior Project Officer, reached out to gauge the participants interest. With their approval, he shared their CV over to the store manager. The participant attended an interview and were offered the job the very same day!
Thrilled to begin their new role, the participant has now been working at the store for several months and has settled in well.
Ellie's journey from job loss to interviews
Ellie, 21, was referred to Newground together by the job centre, seeking a role in retail and customer service.
Newground arranged an appointment to support Ellie through her job search process. During their first meeting, a tailored action plan was created to support her career development, including career mapping, next steps and improving her CV.
After supporting Ellie with revamping her CV and introducing her to cover letters to better highlight her strengths and suitability to roles, Ellie started to receive multiple interview invitations. The next stage involved mock interviews to help polish her responses ahead of a group assessment interview. Although Ellie was not successful in securing that particular role, her confidence, motivation and professional presentation improved significantly.
Ellie is continuing to receive interview invitations and is using her newfound skills to find the right opportunities.
