This practical 2-day course is designed to help delegates develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to carry out effective internal audits of an environmental management system. It introduces the key principles of auditing against ISO 14001:2026 and supports delegates in understanding how to assess conformity, implementation and effectiveness within their own organisation.
Through a combination of case studies, interactive exercises, and group discussions, delegates will explore how to successfully plan, conduct, report and follow up on audit activities. The course also considers important areas such as environmental aspects and impacts, life cycle thinking and management of change, helping delegates apply the requirements of the standard in a practical and meaningful way.
I’ve attended several courses with The Compliance People and the delivery of the training is always consistent and excellent. It is all done in bitesize chunks and understanding is always checked throughout the session. I highly recommend them as a training provider.

This course is aimed at anyone who needs to carry out internal audits of an environmental management system (EMS), including those new to auditing and those looking to refresh or formalise their skills against the current version of the standard.
No formal qualifications are required. The course covers internal auditing against ISO 14001 rather than teaching the standard’s requirements from scratch, so delegates get the most from it if they already have a working knowledge of ISO 14001 – for example, through implementing or working with an ISO 14001 environmental management system.
Yes, definitely! The course is designed to give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to carry out effective internal audits within your own organisation.
Yes. To complete the training and gain the full benefit of the course, attendees should attend both days.
The training is delivered in person to a small group of delegates. It’s designed to be practical, using case studies, interactive exercises and group discussions throughout, rather than being purely presentation based.
Along with our open courses, we offer on-site training and consultancy delivered by our experienced, qualified consultants — tailored to your organisation and delivered around your requirements.
