Mini Summary

The Building (Registered Building Control Approvers etc.) (England) Regulations 2024

The Building (Registered Building Control Approvers etc.) (England) Regulations 2024 establish that building work in England which requires approval to comply with building regulations can be approved by a registered building control approver (RBCA) as an alternative to local authority approval.

The Building Regulations 2010

The Building Regulations 2010 establish that minimum environment standards are required to be met for building work. These Regulations replace previous legislation and are supported by The Building (Approved Inspectors etc.) Regulations 2010 in Wales and The Building (Registered Building Control Approvers etc.) (England) Regulations 2024 in England.

Amendment

From 24th March 2027, Registered Building Control Approvers (RBCAs) must check that housebuilders providing certain energy-related information to new homeowners do so in the prescribed format.

Additional energy efficiency requirements such as renewable electricity generation and energy efficient lifts and escalators are introduced in relation to new building work from 24th March 2027 and in relation to higher risk building work from 24th September 2027. Various exemptions apply.
