Mini Summary

The Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Scheme Order 2020 sets out that operators of installations carrying out regulated activities and those conducting specified aviation or maritime activities must monitor, verify and report their greenhouse gas emissions. This Order establishes the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS), which sets limits on GHG emissions from energy intensive activities across the UK.

 


 
Assimilated Regulation (EU) 2019/331 determining transitional rules for harmonised free allocation of emission allowances (Free Allocation Regulation), sets out that participants in the UK ETS scheme and who are at risk of carbon leakage, may apply for free emission allowances, subject to eligibility criteria. A methodology is laid out for the free allocation of allowances, including the making of applications, and monitoring and reporting obligations

The benchmark value for lime used in the calculation of preliminary allocation of free allowances for incumbent installations in England for the 2027 scheme year is set to 0.798.
