On the ground with our charity – A day with Newground Together

In July, some of The Compliance People team were out and about across Lancashire, visiting several Newground Together sites. If you didn’t already know, all our profits are gift aided to the charity. This was a fantastic opportunity to see first-hand the difference our contribution makes to the community projects taking place in Lancashire.

Many of these projects wouldn’t be able to run without our contribution and we are truly thankful to all our customers because without this support they wouldn’t be able to carry out some of the great work they do.

Here’s what our day looked like:

Morning

Our first stop was to visit our Pendle base at Shackleton Hall in Colne to meet with the Employment and Skills Team and Greener Together Team.

Employment and Skills Team

It was great to sit down with our employment team and hear all about the support that is offered throughout Pendle. They offer a range of support for people looking for jobs, working with them on a 1-2-1 basis. The team explained to us how every person is different, and we offer everything from CV writing, offering multiple training sessions including Maths and English, job applications and interview preparation. Often these people have had significant barriers either getting into work or back into work and it was fantastic to hear about some of their recent successes.

Greener Together Team

We got to meet with the team to find out more about the Community Energy Advice Scheme. They are providing vital information to local residents on ways to save money and reduce their energy bills, often supporting those who are struggling financially to heat their homes. We got to see some of the welcome packs people are given and heard great stories of how through our support people have managed to not only heat their homes but remain in their homes too.

Afternoon

The Hub @Shadsworth

The team got to see a sneak peek into the brand-new youth hub developed in Shadsworth. Everyone commented on what a great space this will be for children in the area, this has also been built alongside a state-of-the-art park, providing a safe area for the community.

Greensleeves

Finally, we got the opportunity to visit Greensleeves, the community garden based on the Shadsworth Estate. Greensleeves gives people a way to escape the usual day to day grind, below are just some of the activities on site.

  • Planting and sowing seeds
  • Forest school sessions
  • Maintenance of an allotment
  • Foraging
  • Becoming sustainable
  • Learning about the environment
  • Jewellery and decoration with natural materials
  • And much more!

We even managed to get the team off their computers and into their scruffs to help on the garden for a few hours.
