Holmen Board and Paper operate their fossil-free mill in Workington producing premium paperboard for packaging and graphical applications. They operate an integrated management system (IMS) and following some employees recently joining their internal auditing team, the organisation was looking for internal auditor training to get them up to speed.

Excellent training. The training was designed to be specifically relevant to our business and procedures, using our documents during the training exercises which allowed for good discussions and learning. The application to the business was invaluable and made the course very engaging.

How we supported Holmen Board and Paper

One of our consultants, Hannah Williams, developed a bespoke internal auditor training course for the organisation. The training needed to cover five standards: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001 and ISO 22000. The integrated requirements of those standards were included, as well as key discipline specific topics.

Through discussions with key site contacts and by reviewing relevant documents and records, the bespoke training was developed to ensure it accurately reflected the site’s IMS. The organisation’s documents were used throughout the training for the delegates to gain knowledge and experience of the IMS and what to look for as internal auditors.

During the training, Hannah was able to provide examples, scenarios and guidance relevant to the organisation when working through the clause requirements.

Outcome

Following the training, the internal auditors are now well equipped to start conducting internal audits and complete the ones assigned to them within the organisation’s internal audit schedule. By providing their employees with this training, Holmen has enabled them to gain a good awareness of the requirements of the five different standards from an internal auditor perspective. Employees have been supported to identify if the IMS remains effective and compliant.
