With growing financial pressure across the country, Newground Together is working in North of England to help create positive outcomes within local communities. Their focus is about providing honest advice and practical support – from energy advice to money saving tips.
Saving Together
As part of their “Saving Together” project, Newground Together has been running a series of free workshops, providing the community with advice on how to live well for less money, covering topics such as shopping tips, cooking sustainably, and even providing individual home assessments on reducing carbon footprint and energy costs.
Last year, the Newground team were contacted by a resident in the Nelson area “Mr F”, reaching out for support during a challenging time. During Newground’s home visit, they were able to provide one-to-one support and identify multiple small-effort changes that would reduce energy use without adding any extra stress, such as quick-wash cycles and only charging electrical appliances when necessary. An important takeaway from the visit was Mr F’s promise to share the new energy saving information with neighbours and people facing similar struggles – the advice given to one household can now help many more in the community.
