How has Coronavirus (COVID-19) changed environmental regulation in the UK and what does that mean for businesses?

In response to the disruption caused by Coronavirus (COVID-19), environmental regulators across the UK are adapting the way they regulate businesses. With most frontline staff now working from home and only occasionally visiting sites, normal regulatory requirements have been largely relaxed in an effort to avoid increasing risks to the environment or human health.

UK regulators have all issued statements outlining their regulatory approaches during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, acknowledging the constraint on resources and capacities at this difficult time. Whilst making clear they still expect businesses’ to do their best to comply with environmental regulations, a number of temporary measures have been set out to support them
