For heath & safety related legislation, The Building Act 1984 is the primary legislation governing the construction, alteration, and maintenance of buildings in England and Wales. It aims to protect people and the environment.
The Building Safety Act 2022 predominantly applies to England and Wales. It introduces changes to building regulation in England, including for higher-risk buildings. In Scotland and Northern Ireland its application is largely limited to liability for damages in relation to construction and cladding products. The Act also establishes the Building Safety Regulator (BSR).

Amendment
Minor corrections made to the Welsh text of both the Building Act 1984 (Commencement No. 1) (Wales) Order 2025 and the Building Safety Act 2022 (Commencement No. 6) (Wales) Regulations 2025 to insert the coming into force date of 1st July 2026.
