Summary
Manufacturers, authorised representatives, importers and distributors (economic operators) must ensure radio equipment* is compliant with requirements when placing or making it available on the market.
*Radio equipment means any electrical or electronic product which intentionally emits and / or receives radio waves for communication and / or determination of positioning, speed or other characteristics, including:
- mobile phones;
- devices with in-built Wi-Fi and / or Bluetooth;
- Wi-Fi routers and modems;
- GPS navigation devices; and
- radio transmitters and receivers.
Radio equipment placed on the market and used in the Republic of Ireland must comply with the essential requirements set out in Article 3 of Directive 2014/53/EU on the harmonisation of the laws of the Member States relating to the making available on the market of radio equipment, ensuring the health and safety of people and domestic animals.
The Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) is the competent authority and market surveillance authority responsible for the regulation of radio equipment in the Republic of Ireland.
The European Union (Radio Equipment) Regulations 2017 are revoked.
