European Union: Member States must introduce legislation by 17th June 2027 to prevent food waste generation and implement an extended producer responsibility scheme for textiles. The definition for gaseous effluents excluded from Directive 2008/98/EC is also updated, specifying that this relates to gaseous effluents emitted and stored in accordance with Directive 2009/31/EC on the geological storage of carbon dioxide.

European Union: MC (Netherlands) 1 B.V. is authorised to use and sell the biocidal product family ‘GA 24-50 BPF’ on the EU market, subject to certain conditions. The authorisation is valid from 20th October 2025 until 30th September 2030.
European Union: Kanters Special Products B.V. is authorised to use and sell the biocidal product ‘Aqua-Clean’ on the EU market, subject to certain conditions. The authorisation is valid from 23rd October 2025 until 30th September 2035.

Wales: Provisions of the Water (Special Measures) Act 2025 (a previous update) come into force on 1st September 2025 for water undertakers whose areas are wholly or mainly in Wales.

Great Britain: Changes are made to both the ECO4 and ECO4A energy company obligation schemes.
European Union: Modifications are made to Annexes I and II to update vehicle safety requirements that manufacturers must comply with, in line with changes made to the UN safety regulations.

Republic of Ireland: The financial year, from which directors of applicable companies are required to include sustainability reporting as part of their directors’ reports, is deferred.

United Kingdom: Three new target periods for climate change agreements (CCAs) are introduced, covering 1st January 2026 to 31st December 2030, with targets applying to individual facilities rather than groups.
United Kingdom: The Secretary of State is given the power to create regulations covering the marketing and use of products to reduce or mitigate health and safety risks from products, ensure products operate efficiently or effectively; and ensure products designed for weighing or measuring are accurate.
