At The Compliance People, we are proud to say that 100% of our profits go to our parent charity Newground Together. We want to share some of the inspiring work that the charity does and how it makes a difference in people’s lives. This case study explores how the team help people like Malini step outside their comfort zone and engage with their community.
Confidence Building
By attending the weekly gardening sessions at Colne Health Centre, taking part in learning how to grow a variety of items such as flowers, herbs and plants, Malini’s confidence grew as she met new people, made friends and bonded over the shared safe space. In the last 12 months, 420 people got involved with similar outdoor activities hosted by Newground Together.
Malini’s volunteering experience offered support in a variety of ways, including:
- A welcoming environment
- One-to-one support from a caring project officer
- Peer encouragement
- Opportunities for other sessions and workshops
Opening New Doors
Attending the gardening sessions also allowed Malini to find out about the other ways she could get involved. Malini embraced her newfound confidence, met like-minded people, learned new skills and expressed her creativity. Malini also improved both her physical health and mental wellbeing through taking part in the weekly walking sessions – guided walks that allow people to explore the local beauty spots.
Malini’s growth in confidence also helped her in the outside world, using the support she received to help apply to jobs. Malini has since landed an incredible position as a Research Associate at the Autism Research Centre, University of Cambridge!
